Moving to toddler bed— how do I keep my headstrong toddler in his room
-
Had to move my 2.5 year old into the toddler bed setting of his crib because he was hurting himself by climbing and falling out. Now he’s stoked on the new freedom and waltzes out of his room a million times. Last night we tried to get him down at 7:30pm but didn’t go to sleep (and we had to go back in each time) until 10pm when he finally let us rock him to sleep. The past year he’s gone down on his own in his crib, no fight. Any tips on what we can do to keep him in his bed and in his room so we can all get sleep? We’ve tried bargaining with him (he’s way too smart), we do the regular calming routine and everything.

Someone please answer this … we put our toddler down for nap and next thing we know he’s waltzing into our office to say hi. We want him to feel independent to go to the potty and that this is our house (obviously in safe rooms and things are childproofed) but he is … very … independent. 🥶

I'm dying because this is us too ha! Short term melatonin until they are in a groove. I'm not a dr and this is definitely not medical advice, just something that has worked for us. Also, standing right outside their door for the first week or so....it's exhausting but worth it in the long run.

We followed Moms On Call for this one and baby proofed the room carefully and added a toddler proof door knob cover inside the room.

We just did the same thing with our 2.5 yr old and in a new house. It took a few weeks, but then I think the novelty of him being able to crawl in and out wore off and now loves his bed and even stays and plays in it when he wakes up. Not an easy transition!

@Susparenting had a great check in method that worked as well. I'll tag her so she can respond!

Hey @crazyday … our teacher shared this author / podcaster / psychologist with us and this article … loving some of this tips (and need to do a deep dive bc it looks like there are some other awesome topics). Take a look … hope it helps!
