Toddler isn’t babbling- speech therapy help!
-
My 2 year old isn’t babbling and the pediatrician seems to think it’s okay, but my mom instinct is worried. Should I meet with a speech therapist or am I over reacting?!

NO you are NOT overreacting!!!! I am a certified SLP and I can say, your child should be babbling at 6 months (worst case 1yr. Unless you had special circumstances like prematurity- but even then an SLP can help). Far too often, I see kids coming too late rather than getting on target sooner!!!! Development doesn't skip a beat!!!!! Early intervention is BEST, research has even proven it!!!!!

I would definitely consult with a speech therapist. https://www.elaineslp.com/ is a good place to start

I’m an OT and I think all therapists- OT, PT, and SLP would say it’s best to get it checked out rather than “wait and see” which seems to be recommended by doctors. You know your child best so if your gut says it should be investigated further, go for it!

I am an SLP and 100% should you seek an initial consult with an SLP! If there is developmental delay, you want to get ahead of the problem and not waste more time!!!! Research has proven early intervention has better outcomes!!!!
