My 2 year old isn’t babbling and the pediatrician seems to think it’s okay, but my mom instinct is worried. Should I meet with a speech therapist or am I over reacting?!

NO you are NOT overreacting!!!! I am a certified SLP and I can say, your child should be babbling at 6 months (worst case 1yr. Unless you had special circumstances like prematurity- but even then an SLP can help). Far too often, I see kids coming too late rather than getting on target sooner!!!! Development doesn't skip a beat!!!!! Early intervention is BEST, research has even proven it!!!!!

I agree with astronaut1, I would rather be over cautious and go to the speech therapist. You’ll never regret going, but you will regret NOT going!

I would definitely consult with a speech therapist. https://www.elaineslp.com/ is a good place to start

I’m an OT and I think all therapists- OT, PT, and SLP would say it’s best to get it checked out rather than “wait and see” which seems to be recommended by doctors. You know your child best so if your gut says it should be investigated further, go for it!

I am an SLP and 100% should you seek an initial consult with an SLP! If there is developmental delay, you want to get ahead of the problem and not waste more time!!!! Research has proven early intervention has better outcomes!!!!

I am not a ST but I have 2 of my 4 kids that were speech delayed and I would get an eval for sure! Earlier is better. At easiest they need a helping jumpstart and won’t need it long. At harder they have a real delay and then time is of the essence you don’t want to wait. At 2 you should have babble at the least. I know it’s hard to know for sure so an eval will just answer your questions and worry. You’re an amazing Mama or you wouldn’t worry.
