My 5 year old is a big mouth breather. Some during the day and always at night. His upper teeth are starting to get crowded and he is getting a gummy smile. I have read these can be caused by mouth breathing. I have tried mouth tape but it doesn’t stay all night. The dentist didn’t see a tounge or lip tie. If you live in austin and have suggestions of a dentist or doctor who has helped you please let me know!

No suggestions, but my 8 year old is a mouth breather when she sleeps. I didn't realize it could lead to anything, so now wonder if there's something I should be on the look-out for. Her dentist has never mentioned anything (and I put she sleeps with her mouth open in the questionnaire), but interested to hear what the concern could be. Thanks!

There is an orthodontist in the arboretum who analyzes airway and breathing patterns. I’m going to think of the name but can also likely google. I’ve had the same question with my child’s crowding of teeth and adhd

My son is also a mouth breather, and our first dentist never brought it up but our new dentist is concerned about it. She wanted to give him a mouth device (similar to an expander) to help with it. We go to Cedar Valley Dental near Dripping Springs. Not sure where you are located!

He also sucks his thumb which doesn't help. A friend of mine recommended tooth pillow for mouth breathers, I wonder if anyone on here has tried it before.

I worked with a dentist that specifically worked with kids for poor airways. Tooth pillow is a tongue and lip correction advise not specific to mouth breathing. It is not an expander, but its more around proper tongue position and behavior.

It won't work for some kids and you will still need an expander, but if your kid is young enough it could help.
