Flying Tips
-
Hi!
I am flying with my 14 month old next week. He is a very busy bee and doesn’t like to stay seatedAny tips on how to make a 2 hour flight go smoothly?
Planned the flight during his normal morning nap time but he’s now started boycotting naps so not feeling confident he’ll sleep.
I’d really prefer to not break out the iPad/ shows if possible.

There are lots of tips out there, especially on Instagram. Here’s a good one: https://www.instagram.com/reel/Cq508xvABjv/?igsh=MWgyZzJqcWNiM2s5NA==
Bring little toys and snacks. That age is tough. They’re just very wiggly and not old enough for screens anyway. I use a drop down travel toiketry bag that I hang from the seat in front of us or the tray table lock so it’s easy to access little toys.

SNACKS. Literally so many snacks. Different snacks then they are used to, even lollipops for taking off (i'm sure you can find some sugar free ones or whatever somewhere). There is a snack spinner that i'll try and find a link.
Window sticker things you can get in the $5 section at target. I would get a window seat so they can play with the window. Magnatiles. Some Benadryl but make sure to test it beforehand and run it by your pediatrician. Also extra clothes for you and for baby in your carry on. Idk why blow outs always happen on planes.
Something to suck on for take off and landing. Lollipop, bottle, pacifier etc -
Snacks, snacks, and more snacks! And new novel toys!

Snacks (I do a bento box and then some “candy” that they don’t normally get), new toys (or toys that they haven’t played with in a while), a stuffy or blanket, and I usually give a small dose of Motrin. It makes my kids sleepy. We rotate the toys. I only give 1 at a time. When they start to lose interest we switch to a new toy or have a snack. I make my kids drink from their water bottle during takeoff and landing.

Lots of deep breaths!!! We’ve been traveling internationally with our kids since they were 6 months old… you just have to prepare your head and your heart that it’s going to be what it’s going to be. Snacks, novel toys and lots of walking up and down the aisles with as many smiles for other passengers as you can muster! Let them run free (as possible) before boarding and during layovers so they get some movement in. Check out @busytoddler for toy recs!!!!!

We bring two bags. One with lots of snacks and one with some loved travel toys like indestructible books, switch/fidget board and the water Melissa and Doug toys. I also bring a new book and a get a new set of window gel clings. The gel clings alone with get like 20-30 minutes of play on the windows and on the back seat/tray! And just give yourself and your child lots of grace. Most people are very friendly to people traveling with littles

Get a “snackle box!” https://a.co/d/9pZ6AfT
The novelty is great and you can give lots of options. Also lollipops if you aren’t opposed to sugar as a sit still bribe. Painters tape, a few new small toys that you can wrap in tissue paper ahead of time so you can give one every 20-30 min for them to unwrap -
Band-aids! I know it sounds crazy, but hear me out. My kids love putting on band-aids, trying to open them, trying to stick them on, it all takes up time, which is exactly what you need - an easy, lightweight, packable distraction. I bring a box of whatever kid kind I can find at Target and let them go to town, and bring a sandwich bag for the trash.
