What’s your game plan for screens this Summer? I like the idea of earning screen time (with a cap). Curious to hear some of your ideas. Thanks for sharing!

We use a grid that has 6 spots of 1/2 hour squares, and the page is inside a sheet protector. The kids cross off when they use a half hour and manage it on their own (with some supervision). So we do that for a total of 3 hours during the week. And then 2 hours on each sat and Sunday.

      Helping parents become Sustainable Parents:
filling the gap between gentle parenting and harsh discipline, so you can parent with kindness and firmness at the SAME time, and parenting finally feels sustainable.

love the grid idea @SustainableMama ! We do screen time either right when getting home from camps as "rest time" or the hour before bed. Sometimes its a fight for the hour before bed, so we made it so the TV turns off automatically at the hour mark so its not "me" turning it off.

We are doing auto 30 mins each day…then they can earn more time doing chores, reading, workbooks or Bible verses. We have said one TV show after dinner either as family watching or while we clean up after dinner. Hope this works!! 😝 We have elementary aged children.
**Oh we also have fire tablets so the time “On/Off” is setup by us- so they don’t complain about it. Ex: it’s not unlocked until 7:30am and it locks at 5:30pm.

Granted it's early so who knows what late july will look like...but we have a checklist of things they have to go through (basic chores like making their bed and picking up their rooms), 20 minutes of reading etc and then they get 45 minutes to watch a show/movie or play a game on the computer. Wish us luck!
