I have a 15 month old baby who loves water. I would love to get her into swim lessons but don’t want it to be a waste of time doing the classes since she already has no problem with water in her face or even me dunking her in water. I’ve heard a lot about those survival classes. I’d love to hear the good and the bad for any class/place! Thank you in advance!

I did survival swim lessons with two of my kids last year, and I was amazed at how well they did. We moved into a house with a pool, and a fence and survival swim lessons were both musts for me. My kids were 3 and 19 months when we started lessons. They made progress every single day. My 3 year old came out of lessons swimming across the pool. The toddler came out able to float, and he was starting to turn and swim. It is an investment - over $600 for each for us, but definitely worth it for us. Also, I have a 10 year old that I did traditional lessons starting when she was a baby, and she never made progress until she was 7. Another thing to consider is that they will lose their skills if they don't practice. I did refresher lessons this spring with my now two year old, and he picked it back up and progressed beyond what he learned in the first round.

I think it depends on the kid. ISR seems like a great option but as a working mom I couldn't swing the commitment.
I had one kid that was a "runner" so had to start early (2ish).
My other kids were a little more cautious (although i know accidents happen) and we started at 3yrs but they weren't actually swimming until 4yrs and by swimming i mean dog paddling. Freestyle started around 5 yrs

If you’re thinking about ISR (highly recommend) I’d say 6 months is a great time! Like others have said it’s an investment and a real time commitment but it was worth it for us with a pool & grandparents with pools etc.

We did ISR and it worked, my child can float, but my child is also TERRIFIED of the water now.

It depends on your goals. Having fun with mommy and me classes splashing around?-literally anytime at Emler or nitro.
Need to learn to swim in a week? Ms Kristina also good for learning strokes. I think summer after turning 3yrs old. (Ms Cathy if you have a super strong, resilient kid-it’s not for our sensitive ones).
If you have nothing but time and want to learn how to swim in 3 years- nitro

I think it really depends on the kids personality. We have done the gentle, but also throw you under the water lessons starting at 2, and every year on after until 4. We've also done the ISR with our youngest, mostly because my in-laws have a pool and she is by far the craziest and thought she could swim. I would HIGHLY recommend ISR if you are swimming often, or have a pool of your own, If your kid is shy around the water and you don't swim much you may be able to get away with other lessons. I would stay away from Emler and that type - they will NEVER learn and it will just be a waste of time.

I'm about to start doing swim lessons with my under 2 baby at Emler Swim School. They have a water babies class that my older daughter found to be fun. She is now 6 and a strong swimmer!
