Is there such a thing?! We have young kids all under 7 and can’t fathom spending the outrageous prices that vail and other places are offering!

Well your first issue is Vail lol
Look at New Mexico (angel fire, Red River) and less expensive places in Colorado.
Short answer is no, I don’t think ski trip and affordable go in the same sentence but there are definitely less expensive areas than Vail.

Have you looked into skiing in Europe! Put alerts for flights! It is far more affordable!!! For example, Ski School in Zermatt for a full week 9-3:30 with lunch included is $589! 2 weeks of rentals for both my kids was $270! I forgot to include that kids life tickets are FREE until they’re 9!!!!! And after that it’s 1/2 price… Which is still waaaaaaay cheaper than in the states. Many European destinations are part of the epic or icon pass if you already have one!

We are currently planning a ski trip, and there are a variety of places where kids ski free depending on age, I've listed the ones I've found below:

          1. Crested Butte (kids ski free under 4)
          2. Big Sky (kids ski free under 6)
          3. Steamboat (Kids 12 years old and younger can ski for free the same number of days as an accompanying adult who purchases a lift ticket for five or more days).
          4. Park City (Kids in kindergarten through fifth grade are eligible for five free days of skiing)
          5. Brighton, Snowbasin and Snowbird (UTAH) - all VERY affordable, kids ski free and a GREAT starter mountain if you have first timers. Half day private lesson is $425 in Brighton, which shockingly is cheaper than most.
