I know tongue and lip tie releases are performed on babies quite often. Does any one have any experience/feedback on this with a younger child having this done? My 5 yo needs both.

Is your 5 year old having issues now that would make it necessary to get it corrected?

My son also has one and he’s older, but the dentist said it wasn’t necessary for us to fix specific to his case. Usually they have feeding issues as a baby, did your daughter struggle at all with breastfeeding?

One of my kids had this+a cheek tie 🤷🏼‍♀️ if in austin I think the most recommended place is green apple. She ultimately told me that we didn’t have to do it bc it wasn’t severe enough. All these years later and I wish we had.
You can try cranial myofacial therapy first and see if it helps!

Yes my youngest kid has it done a little older at 7 and it helped drastically with a surprisingly quick recovery. The sooner the better in my opinion though.

We went to Poplin Pediatric Dentistry, Dr. Jared Poplin in Austin, TX. Go for it.

We had it done on my oldest when he was four and a half years old. We were solving open mouth breathing, sleep apnea like symptoms and speech (he was able to speak but wasn’t make the letters correctly, he sounded very nasally). And yes it helped all of those things. Dr. Evy at green apple was AMAZING and she’s known for being very conservative.

@MotherShip My daughter struggled sooo much with breastfeeding. Concerns now are mouth breathing, bed wetting and enlarged tonsils. Some doctors sedate for this and some don’t. I was curious also if anyone did this without sedation, how did it go

If you’re in Austin, we had it done by Dr. Poplin. Great experience! Myofunctional Therapy before and after is v important. We had this lovely woman named Virginie come to our house in the mornings before school. I have twin boys and one of them did a few months of myofunctional therapy. The other twin needed like 6 months.

It feels like it’s all the rage now! We did it and I’m not sure if it helped or not but it didn’t hurt! It is scary for a parent

We did the tongue tie release in first grade and myofunctional therapy before and after. Not sure if it helped. 3 years later and my son is still in speech therapy. But seeing slow and steady improvement…
