Career advice

Hey team,
I currently work from home for a title company. What I do is a little “nichey” and am not necessarily looking to stay in the industry. While I do have some flexibility and autonomy I’m not challenged whatsoever and there’s no upward mobility in this role. Add in a funky housing market and I’m simply not making enough money to support our family. I’m looking for something new and don’t know where to start. I need and want flexibility with two young kids but also want a promising, fulfilling career path. Preference to working from home/hybrid. I’m open to looking to new industry. My career trajectory has been more of a jungle gym than a straight line but my experience ranges from nonprofit, design industry and now title industry. Would love to network with any of you that might have some experience with this!

Have you thought about getting your real estate license? You have the background knowledge and it would definitely give you the flexibility/work environment you’re looking for. I am a real estate broker now but started out as an assistant for a high producing team and learned SO much while I got my license. Then became an agent and eventually a broker with my own brokerage. You definitely need guidance and need to be really motivated but there’s definitely $ to be made! And it’s really up to you as to what level you want to go with it. Happy to answer any questions!!

@awax2309 I feel you! I am currently trying to transition out of the healthcare world of patient care into more of a remote health tech role and it has been a big learning curve. I have worked with two career coaches (the second one was a much better fit, so definitely need to find the right one for you), revamped my resume, have reached out to my network of friends and have set up many coffee dates. Biggest advice is to go in with an open mind, ready to learn about all different roles you could do and focus on your transferable skills to any role. Really get out there and talk to all friends about your career goals and career shift because more than likely they know someone they can connect you with personally or via LinkedIn. Rather than going in with mindset of “please refer me to someone who can give me a job” go in with learning mindset of “I would love to learn more about their role at this company”. It can definitely be tough but as moms we can do anything!

Another mom said she switched to a career that wasn’t client facing and had more projects vs meetings. I thought that was super insightful and what I’ll look for in my next gig

Skills- what are you really good at, and what would you like to have someone else do? Your industry switches are pretty different, so in a world where storytelling and marketing yourself isn't going anywhere, you need to learn how to weave your strengths into an elevator pitch that explains why you were good at previous jobs, and what you can do for the next company you want to work for.

High performers don't apply for roles posted online.
High performers are clear on what they want (you-flexibility, upward growth), what they can offer (skills), and what they won't put up with. I think you should also make a list of dream companies + why you want to work there as a north star.
From there, you pitch, network, and you convince people why they need you. You figure out where there is white space in an org you're interested in, and how you can make an impact. Then you communicate that impact plan to the hiring manager or decision maker.
Don't apply for jobs. Make them.

I'm a bit older and my kids are grown, but I am here to say it's never too late to change careers!! It's all about networking, even if you don't have the experience in an industry but you have the personality, people will hire you!!! I was a stay at home mom for years, and someone took a chance and gave me a job which got me back into the job market - very grateful!
